As part of its membership in the EOSC association, European Open Science Cloud, CESNET has participated in a number of international projects. One of them is CS3MESH4EOSC.
The complex acronym conceals efforts to create an open science infrastructure of "Science Mesh" repositories for sharing and unrestricted work with scientific data in the European environment.
The project focuses on the development of an extension tool, application interfaces (APIs) and protocols for managing user access to data sharing and synchronization systems, such as ownCloud@CESNET, SURFdrive, CERNBox, PSNCBox, CloudSTOR, Sciebo, SWITCHdrive and ScienceData. The tool will offer easy sharing and access to data across institutional and geographical boundaries. Data sharing and synchronization, operating in national systems, will also be available at European level. The service will be expanded with the possibility of data editing, transfer of large data files and their simple publication in scientific openaccess repositories. Researchers and academics will find their cooperation more effective.
The CS3MESH4EOSC project is coordinated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and involves national e-infrastructures, universities and commercial entities from the EU and Australia. The first results of the project were presented through a demonstration video at the CS3 2021 - Cloud Storage Synchronization and Sharing conference. The main benefit of the proposed solutions is their possible use in a heterogeneous environment of systems from different suppliers, usually connected to national e-infrastructures. Users maintain control over their remote or home data files while being integrated into European cloud of open science. Providing an interconnected platform tailored to the specific needs of researchers and students contributes to enhancing and sharing scientific knowledge.
